Another sign that a narcissist is hurt is that they will cut someone off. If you’re in a relationship with a narcissist and you’ve hurt them, they may discard you for that. But I want to be clear: they may also discard you for any other reason—just because it’s Tuesday, or if they feel like it. So it’s not necessarily a clear sign that you’ve hurt them.
If you notice other signs along with the discard, then you may have hurt the narcissist. This often happens in friendships with narcissists and in family relationships. If you do anything to hurt them, these people will cut you off. They do not give second chances. It’s funny because they expect a whole lot of second, third, and 25th chances—but they do not give one. They do not give a second chance.
If you hurt a narcissist, it could be as simple as saying “no” to plans. If they’re feeling wounded, they will cut you off without a second thought.
Another sign that a narcissist is hurt is that they’re engaging in a smear campaign. A narcissist will very much use a smear campaign for revenge. And again, they have to be getting something out of this. They want to see that they’re hurting you. If they don’t see that they’re hurting you, they’ll move on to something else eventually.
