They do not realize that God, the universe, or whatever higher power you connect with has been watching all along. And when that divine protection finally activates, it does not always look like immediate peace.
In fact, the very first sign that God is protecting you is often deeply painful—because the first thing God does is let your illusions die.
When you’re deeply trauma-bonded to a narcissist, God does not initially comfort you. He removes the lie. He lets you see exactly what you were calling love. He lets you see what you were so desperately defending. He lets you see what you were begging to keep.
And I know that part is absolutely brutal. You are suddenly forced to grieve—not only the narcissist, but the fantasy you had attached to them. You grieve the person you thought they were and the future you had so vividly imagined.
But God—the universe—the higher being does this because he knows he cannot build your next chapter, your true life, on top of a foundation of denial. He has to break the illusion so you can step into the truth.
And that is what brings us to the next brutal yet necessary way you are protected: God will make the narcissist expose what was hidden, because your freedom needs evidence.
I have survivors ask me all the time: “Why did God let me see so much evil? Why did he let the mask fall in such an ugly, devastating way? Why did I have to discover the lies—the financial abuse, the betrayal, the mockery, the coldness, and the sick enjoyment they got from my pain?”
The answer is simple, but hard to swallow.
Because if he had not let it become that clear, a part of you would still be making excuses for them. A part of you would still be saying, “Maybe they are just stressed. Maybe they’re acting out of their childhood wounds. Maybe I am overreacting. Maybe if I just love them a little harder, they will change.”
God knows your heart. He knows how incredibly loyal you are. He knows how deeply you can love.
So sometimes he lets a narcissist overplay their hand so badly and act so incredibly wicked that even your massive loving heart cannot deny the truth anymore.
You needed the irrefutable evidence to finally break the chains, and the universe gave it to you.
When this shift starts happening—when you start waking up to the truth—the narcissist senses it, and it terrifies them to their core because suddenly you are no longer playing by their rules.
Unexplainable things start happening. Doors that were firmly locked suddenly swing wide open. You find courage you never knew you had. You start meeting the right people, finding the right information, and the trajectory of your life begins to violently shift away from them.
