The third thing I want to discuss is narcissistic supply. Narcissistic supply is something that narcissists will always need, no matter how old they get. However, many older narcissists seem to care more for the darker narcissistic supply. Dark narcissistic supply is derived from hurting people and causing pain and confusion. Knowing that they are causing suffering will always make a narcissist happy. They live to make others miserable, and now that they are viewed as seniors, they think that this is a ticket for them to say and do what they want. Their image and reputation are put on the back burner, and their desires to control and oppress those around them become all the more evident. They never learn to value or love other people; they only know how to use and abuse until the very end. Their wants and needs are all that matter, right down to their last breath. They never own up to the hurt and misery they cause; they only continue to perpetuate that others have wronged them, that others are ungrateful, and that others have no respect. The aging narcissist does have regrets, but not the type you would expect. It always has to do with vengeance and wishing they had made someone pay.
The fourth issue I would like to address is the presence of flying monkeys. There are always a few people who stick by the narcissist’s side until the very end and even carry on the narcissist’s work. These flying monkeys are often bitter, twisted, or just plain evil; that is the only way I can describe them. Like everyone else, they would have witnessed some of the narcissist’s atrocities but still endure and defend them to the very end. Many narcissists manage to have flying monkeys, regardless of their age. The flying monkeys themselves may change over the years, but they remain very useful to the narcissist, who always seems to find a way to attract people of that caliber. They may have fewer people to work with as they get older, but they are sure to have at least one devoted flying monkey.
The fifth thing I want to examine is the narcissist’s financial status and how it can contribute to their continual reign of terror. Although many narcissists become less of a physical threat due to health issues and a general lack of mobility, there are a handful who remain a threat if they have money, power, and connections. A narcissist with these three things will do everything in their power to make your life hell, no matter how old they are or where they are. They will try to use their power, influence, and money to get people to carry out their dirty work. Those who lack money or power resort to causing unnecessary drama through slander and lies. They do this to entertain themselves and incite ongoing divisions.
