Today I want to talk about the aging narcissist. What can we expect as they get older? Does their game end? Do they have regrets? Do they improve slightly as they age? What should you look out for when it comes to the aging narcissist? Well, there are a lot of factors at play regarding how dangerous or influential a narcissist can be in their old age. This video will cover six main aspects, so please stay with me until the end.
When a narcissist is in their prime, they feel on top of the world; youth is on their side. For those who depend heavily on their looks, they seem to think they will be young and beautiful forever. But time favors no one, and they soon realize that the playing field is not in their favor. I have already spoken about the aging female narcissist in particular, addressing the fact that they actually get terribly worse. But both aging male and female narcissists are in the spotlight today.
Let’s first look at the narcissist’s game: does it end in old age, or do they change up their tactics? The aging narcissist’s mind games and emotional manipulation do not end. The narcissist’s game of using people like pawns and tools never ends until they are dead. What happens, though, is that their game gets old. Their tactics become predictable and unbearable, and many people around them just get fed up with their toxic behavior and distance themselves. Many narcissists are actually stuck in the past, thinking they can use the same tactics and tricks and get away with it. Sadly for them, it’s laughable— even embarrassing to witness— when a narcissist refuses to accept that their age doesn’t permit them to behave in a certain manner anymore. But narcissists don’t learn, and they don’t change their game. They never think that they can be outsmarted or that anyone can point a finger at them, especially in old age.
Now let’s look at the narcissist’s health in old age because this plays a major role in their effectiveness. For example, narcissists in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond, provided that they are in good health, can keep their game going for longer. It all comes down to their physical and mental capabilities. The longer they can care for themselves and get around, the longer they will continue to try to fool the masses and cement themselves as pillars in their communities. When a narcissist’s health hinders them from doing what they want to do and going where they want to go, it makes them all the more miserable. The mask is not as useful as it was when they were younger. Their declining health adds to their misery and makes them even more driven to make someone else’s life miserable. Many will use their declining health as an excuse for the drama they incite. They are also bound to play the victim and expect people to cater to them, despite how horrible they may have been.
